With Jade having been revealed as John Stape’s daughter, we thought it was time to revisit the cobbles killer’s worst crimes.
1 He cheated on Fiz with a teenaged Rosie Webster
Teacher John had a steamy affair with Rosie, which led to him losing his job. He started working at Street Cars, and Fiz forgave him. But he blamed Rosie for his misfortune and kidnapped her in revenge. Fortunately, Rosie got away and John got sent to prison – where he and a very forgiving Fiz tied the knot.
2 He posed as Colin Fishwick
After his stint in jail, John went to a leaving do for his old colleague, Colin Fishwick, who was emigrating to Canada and leaving teaching. John stole his identity and went back to teaching. But when another former colleague, Charlotte Hoyle, found out she blackmailed John because she fancied him rotten (no, we’re not sure why so many women fell for him, either)
3 He left Colin Fishwick to die
When Colin returned from Canada unexpectedly, he confronted John and Charlotte. But he died suddenly and instead of getting help, the twisted pair buried him under the floor of the factory.
4 He went on a killing spree
Colin was the first of John’s victims, followed by his partner in crime, Charlotte, and poor Colin’s elderly mother, Joy.
5 He kidnapped loads of people
When Fiz found out the truth about what her husband had been up to, she was horrified. When she followed him, she discovered he’d kidnapped Chesney and Charlotte’s parents. But that wasn’t the end of his kidnapping binge. He took baby Hope when Fiz refused to run away with him – though he later brought her back – and after disappearing for a few months, he returned to Weatherfield and kidnapped Rosie again. Fortunately, Kevin and Jason Grimshaw were on hand to save the day. And after a dramatic car chase, John crashed and died from his injuries.
