Sometimes in soap, it’s necessary to keep a secret. Maybe you’ve killed your sister with a music box. Shhh! Or perhaps that baby you’ve just given birth to isn’t your husband’s child. Shhh! Possibly you’ve even murdered a corrupt cop and buried him in the woods. Don’t tell!
But while there are definitely a few things that need to be kept under wraps, at the moment in soap there are a lot of people keeping secrets that frankly we don’t understand. Here’s our round-up.
1 Tim Metcalfe’s heart condition
Finally it’s out in the open, but Tim keeping his heart problems a secret was painful. Not least because just about everyone else in the Street other than his wife Sally knew about it! Tim caused poor Sal all sorts of upset with his odd behaviour, and – as Peter Barlow pointed out – made his own life much more stressful too. What a wally!
2 Stuart Highway’s cancer
We know, we know. Anyone who has cancer in soap has to inexplicably keep it secret from everyone who loves them. But YAWN. And it’s bad enough when it involves secret sad faces but Stuart’s aggression was a tricky watch. Thank goodness wife Rainie’s up to speed now because any sympathy we were feeling for Stuart was disappearing fast.
3 Emma and Faye and the crutch
What on earth is going on here then? We don’t understand any of it – why Emma and Faye didn’t tell anyone what had happened, why they didn’t get rid of the crutch, why Craig is so obsessed with it, why, why, why?
4 Jai Sharma’s money troubles
Here’s what could have happened when Jai arrived back from the health and safety hearing. Laurel would have asked him how it went and instead of pretending it was all FINE, Jai could have said: “Oh it was awful, we’ve been given a huge fine, I don’t know how I’m going to pay it.” But no. It didn’t happen like that and now we’re wearily waiting for Laurel and Jai to split when she finds out he’s taken out a loan in her name. Oh well, it was good while it lasted.
5 Chelsea Fox and Gray Atkins
Chelsea, Whitney and Kheerat all suspect Gray killed Chantelle. But they are doing nothing about it, except whispering “we have to wait” to each other. Wait for what? Why? We can see it might be tricky for poor Chelsea. After all, it’s not as if her mum was a victim of domestic violence, or as if her stepdad is in the police, is it? Oh. Wait…
